The Youth Climate Council Global Alliance (YCC GA) is a youth-led community gathering advisory bodies and platforms aiming to influence climate policy-making and raise ambition on climate action. Seven Youth Climate Councils are part of the YCC GA. They advocate for youth inclusion in climate decision-making processes on national and local levels. The Youth Climate Councils are also present in the Arctic as the very first YCC ever established operates in Denmark. YCC GA is active globally, promoting the participation of young people in shaping climate policies at international events such as COPs or regional climate weeks. Throughout the years, YCC GA has been cooperating with different non-governmental organizations, movements and groups as well as international organizations, institutions and governments. Through the session at the Arctic Pavillion, the YCC GA plans to showcase how the effective youth climate engagement in the Arctic can foster youth climate cooperation around the world. Using the example of YCC Denmark, speakers will highlight the benefits of institutionalized youth advisory bodies and their impact on climate decision-making on local and national level, while presenting different forms of youth interacting with climate policy-making. The session’s goal is to present how a momentum built in one country or region - in this case the Arctic can have a tangible result around the globe.
